The De La Salle Bursary

This bursary fund was established in 2005 through partnership with St. Padre Pio Academy. Through the generous support of individuals and Foundations, the De La Salle Bursary Fund honours the work of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (the Christian Brothers).

The Christian Brothers were founded by Jean Baptist De La Salle in France in the mid-1700's. De La Salle spent his life establishing schools for the poor and training the teachers who worked in those schools. Today, the Brothers operate schools, colleges, universities and other educational projects around the globe. Their commitment to making quality education accessible to those who can't afford it remains a hallmark of their work.

In 1817, the Brothers opened their first school, the De La Salle Institute, on Duke Street (now called Adelaide Street East) in downtown Toronto. The amount of each bursary is determined annually and is based on the income generated from the principal fund. Currently there are two awards per year valued at $10,000 each.

Recipients are chosen by the Faculty.
